Cubs Slam Angels

Somewhere Ernie Banks is smiling, not to mention Cubs coach Matt Garrett, Mike Madden and John Bapst. The Cubs swung the heavy lumber on Saturday, pushing across a season-high in runs in blowing out the Angels 14-4. It was their most complete performance of the season.

Blake Byrd was sharp in his first appearance on the mound, recording the final outs while also reaching base all three times up to earn Gameball honors. The Cubs had their best defensive game of the year highlighted by a 1-3-6 double play in the 3rd inning (from Trevor Meyer to Charley Casey to Alex Tate), and a put out at the plate to end the game (Alex unleashing a rocket from shallow left field to catcher Mick Madden, who did a tremendous job of holding on and applying the tag).

Individually, Trever pitched 2+ innings while lacing 3 hits; Parker Garrett had 3 hits; Alex banged out 2 hits; Brandon Shockley roped a screaming base hit; Charley had 2 hits and drew a walk; Jack Fiscella scored 3 runs; Jack Bapst took one for the team getting hit by a pitch; Jordan Bass with another stellar game; and not to be overlooked Parke Schalon, who took the mound for the first time and performed admirably.

Cubs Hold on for Dramatic Win

In perhaps the most thrilling game at Murphey Candler this season, the scrappy Cubs watched a 4-0 lead evaporate, then rallied back and hung on for a nail-biting 6-5 win over the Yankees.
It came down to the bottom of the 5th inning. The Cubs were clinging to a one-run lead and were just one out away from victory. But the Yankees had the potential tying run at third and winning run at second. A tiring Mick Madden was facing the dangerous Greg Martin. Down in the count 4-1, Mick painted the outside corner of the plate with a letter-high fastball, but Martin ripped a screaming line drive that appeared
headed for the right field corner and a Yanks win. However, the lightening-quick Parker Garrett speared the frozen rope to preserve the Cubs victory and square their record at 3-3.
For his efforts in the field, not to mention reaching base all three times he was up and scoring twice, Parker earned Gameball honors.


Once again the Cubs put together a tremendous team effort. Trevor Meyer walked twice and scored two runs; Alex Tate produced an RBI single and made a stellar catch in center field; Charley Casey pitched 2+ strong innings; Jack Bapst and Jack Fiscella each scored runs (the latter, after performing an Indian-like rain dance); Jordan Bass took one for the team getting hit by a pitch; Brandon Shockley drew a key walk after working the count full; and Blake Byrd and Parke Shalon making outstanding contributions.
The Cubs play again on Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting for the latter. The Cubs are planning a Sunday post-game gathering at Twisted Taco.

Cubs Lose Thriller

It was a valiant comeback effort by the Cubs, who rallied from a 5-0 deficit to the Cardinals, only to lose 9-8 in a game that didn't end until well past many of the player's bedtime!

It was a tremendous evening for Trevor Meyer who banged out 2 hits, scored 2 runs and knocked in 2 more to earn Gameball honors. Alex Tate had a big night as well, pounding out 3 hits and knocking in 3 runs. Even in defeat, it was a great team effort by all of the Cubs' players.

Cubs Hold Off Red Sox

Before a standing room only gathering at the Double A Field (see photo below), the Cubs jumped out to an 8-1 lead on the Red Sox and hung on for an 8-7 victory. Parker Garrett banged out two hits, including a double, and knocked in two runs to spearhead the win. He also pitched 2 strong innings to win Game Ball honors.

It was a total team effort with every member of the Cubs reaching base. Alex Tate went 3-for-3, including a double and triple, scoring two runs and knocking in two more. Mick Madden not only was solid on the mound, but roped a triple, knocking in two runs. Trevor Meyer had a hit and scored a run; Charlie Casey was HBP, walked and scored; Jack Bapst collected two hits while knocking in a run; Blake Byrd walked and scored; Parke Shalon was HBP, walked and scored; and Jordan Bass banged out a clutch hit. The game ended with Jack Bapst snaring a line drive and turning it into a double play.

Cubs Rally Falls Short

The Cubs rallied from 8-0 down against the Orioles to close within 3-runs in the 5th inning, only to fall 10-5. It was far from the Cubs best effort of the season, but they did have their moments and shinning stars. Trevor Meyer and Parker Garrett each had two hits and two rbi's, while Alex Tate and Charley Casey each came through with big hits. Blake Byrd, Parke Schalon, Jordon Bass, Brandon Shockley and Trevor scored the Cubs runs. Mick Madden, Trevor and Parker handled the chores on the mound, with Trevor's ball-to-strike ratio 9:20 and Parker's 11:29. The two Jacks - Bapst and Fiscella - also played hard in defeat.

Charley turned in the game's defensive gem, an amazing scoop at first base. Charley was awarded the Game Ball.

The Cubs next game is 5:30 pm Tuesday evening against the Red Sox on the Double A Field.

Cubs Notch Their First Win

Starting pitcher Charley Casey was sharp on the mound throwing two shutout innings, and Parker Garrett worked his way out of a bases loaded jam in the 5th, to lead the Cubs to their first win of the season, 6-4 over the Dodgers.
The Cubs were forced to rally from behind. Trailing 4-0 going to the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Cubs rallied for three runs, keyed by a big base hit by Charley. The Cubs added three more in the bottom of the 4th, Alex Tate coming through with a clutch rbi. Alex was awarded the Game Ball. Jack Bapst scored two runs with Brandon Shockley, Jack Fiscella, Charley and Parker each scoring a run. Parke Schalon, Jordan

Bass, Blake Byrd and Mick Madden all played key roles in the victory.
The Cubs now look ahead to Opening Ceremonies on Friday night. Their next game is 3:30 pm Saturday on the Double A Field against the Orioles.
