Cubs Hold Off Red Sox

Before a standing room only gathering at the Double A Field (see photo below), the Cubs jumped out to an 8-1 lead on the Red Sox and hung on for an 8-7 victory. Parker Garrett banged out two hits, including a double, and knocked in two runs to spearhead the win. He also pitched 2 strong innings to win Game Ball honors.

It was a total team effort with every member of the Cubs reaching base. Alex Tate went 3-for-3, including a double and triple, scoring two runs and knocking in two more. Mick Madden not only was solid on the mound, but roped a triple, knocking in two runs. Trevor Meyer had a hit and scored a run; Charlie Casey was HBP, walked and scored; Jack Bapst collected two hits while knocking in a run; Blake Byrd walked and scored; Parke Shalon was HBP, walked and scored; and Jordan Bass banged out a clutch hit. The game ended with Jack Bapst snaring a line drive and turning it into a double play.

Cubs Rally Falls Short

The Cubs rallied from 8-0 down against the Orioles to close within 3-runs in the 5th inning, only to fall 10-5. It was far from the Cubs best effort of the season, but they did have their moments and shinning stars. Trevor Meyer and Parker Garrett each had two hits and two rbi's, while Alex Tate and Charley Casey each came through with big hits. Blake Byrd, Parke Schalon, Jordon Bass, Brandon Shockley and Trevor scored the Cubs runs. Mick Madden, Trevor and Parker handled the chores on the mound, with Trevor's ball-to-strike ratio 9:20 and Parker's 11:29. The two Jacks - Bapst and Fiscella - also played hard in defeat.

Charley turned in the game's defensive gem, an amazing scoop at first base. Charley was awarded the Game Ball.

The Cubs next game is 5:30 pm Tuesday evening against the Red Sox on the Double A Field.

Cubs Notch Their First Win

Starting pitcher Charley Casey was sharp on the mound throwing two shutout innings, and Parker Garrett worked his way out of a bases loaded jam in the 5th, to lead the Cubs to their first win of the season, 6-4 over the Dodgers.
The Cubs were forced to rally from behind. Trailing 4-0 going to the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Cubs rallied for three runs, keyed by a big base hit by Charley. The Cubs added three more in the bottom of the 4th, Alex Tate coming through with a clutch rbi. Alex was awarded the Game Ball. Jack Bapst scored two runs with Brandon Shockley, Jack Fiscella, Charley and Parker each scoring a run. Parke Schalon, Jordan

Bass, Blake Byrd and Mick Madden all played key roles in the victory.
The Cubs now look ahead to Opening Ceremonies on Friday night. Their next game is 3:30 pm Saturday on the Double A Field against the Orioles.

Rain Washes Away Opening Day

Murphey Candler Opening Day ceremonies were rained out on Saturday, as was the Cubs game against the Dodgers. The festivities are tentatively rescheduled for Sunday, but with rain again in the forecast, another rainout appears likely.

Cubs Lose Opener

It wasn't exactly the result the Cubs expected in their season opener following a tremendously successful spring training. Before a standing room-only gathering at the Double-A Field on a picture perfect Thursday evening for baseball, the Cubs came up on the short end of a 7-4 game against the Mets.
Even in defeat, there's no denying the talent on this team. The stars at the plate included Brandon Shockey, who knocked in a pair of runs; Alex Tate banged out two hits and had an rbi; Charley Casey came through with a triple to the fence; Mick Madden roped a double; Jack Bapst had a key rbi; Parke Schalon ripped a base hit and reached on a walk; Parker Garrett with a base knock and Jack Fiscella with a fabulous ten-pitch at bat that led to a walk and the Cubs first run of the game.
Defensively, Mick made a sensational play at the plate, tagging out a runner; Charley had a nice catch in the outfield; and Jack Fiscella with a look-what-I-found snag at third base.
Parker, Mick and Trevor Meyer turned in solid performances on the mound.
The Cubs now look ahead to Saturday's 3:30 pm game against the Dodgers. Here's hoping the weather holds up.

Let the Games Begin!

The Cubs held a spirited final scrimmage leading up to Wednesday evening's season opener against the Mets. The strength of this team appears to be exceptional pitching and tremendous speed on the bases. The so-called experts are picking the Cubs to contend for a league championship.

Cubs Win 2nd Exhibition Game

Thanks to stellar work on the mound from Charley Casey, Mick Madden and Jack Bapst, the Cubs stopped the Dodgers 4-1 in their second exhibition game of the preseason. Mick (who beat the throw in the photo above), Trevor Meyer and Parker Garrett swung a mean stick, with the entire team contributing to the victory. By the way, a Cubs song is now on the website - click on the link to the right labeled Cubs singers, once on the website - click the arrow next to Play this track. Enjoy!

Cubs Impressive in Practice Game Opener

With Alex Tate ripping a two-run single and Trevor Meyer making a sensational catch to end the game, the Cubs beat up on the Cardinals Thursday night in their first practice game, played in near freezing temperatures. Parker Garrett, Meyer, Mick Madden and Tate all were sharp on the mound. The Cubs were victorious despite playing with only eight players. The Cubs will practice again on Saturday from 1-3 pm on Field 11. Their first regular season game is 5:30 pm Wednesday against the Mets.
